Acrylic on canvas

This piece was a nod to the Gladiolus flower and the multifaceted meanings that the flower possesses. From strength to passion to love and much more, I wanted to capture that idea on the canvas. I depicted these women with different styles and different poses, to show the way that women can also be multiple things at once. The woman who is front and center is depicted with strength and courage by having her staring directly at the viewer. This was forbidden in most ancient art. Women were ordered to always look away, so I challenged that notion, here. The purple skin given to them was a nod to royalty and power. This is one of my favorite pieces and it would be a great addition to any home.
